During this week…For those who picked up the spelling mistakes in my subject line last week, well done for spotting them. I wish I could say they were deliberate, particularly as the e-tip was on Changing how you say it! And maybe they were at an unconscious level, but consciously I was rushing to meet up with friends and get out on the slopes on my snowboard to make the most of the last few days of snow here!Although, changing how I say it gave me some feedback! So it does work! This week’s e-tip – finding what client’s love about you!I was inspired to write this e-tip from a meeting I had recently with the Summer Morzine chalet company. They have a fantastic new chalet in Morzine, where they’re running themed yoga weeks (http://www.summermorzine.com/morzine/speciality/yoga/yoga.php). What a great place to relax and get away from it all, here in the Alps.I was talking to the MD, Paul Sugg, and his Business Development Manager Liz, about what made them different. You know, the stuff that their clients loved about them. They were looking at doing market research, questionnaires, feedback forms, going through their databases or whatever to get the information they needed. And then Paul produced the Visitor Book! And everything he needed to know about what his clients loved about them was in there. All the things that made them different, what mattered most to their clients, and in their own words too! Brilliant! That’s right, clients choose to write something, only if they want to, and they put down the things that made a difference to them. And it’s in their own words too, their very specific words. So use these to reflect back at other clients in your marketing material. Make a play on them.Their customers said things like Impeccable Service, and the staff showed me a side to Morzine I never knew existed.I’ve been talking about different uses of language and how people communicate using visual, auditory and kinaesthetic language (feelings), so go through your Visitors Book and pick out these words that your clients use to describe their feelings, what they got out of it, the values, and use them in your communications. Big them up!I’m not suggesting using them as testimonials, just picking out key words and phrases and use them in your marketing materials, correspondence, or when you speak to prospective clients. If you don’t have a Visitors Book, and many businesses don’t, go through any communication from clients – emails, letters, listen to them on the telephone or when you talk to them face to face, and note down what they say about you and what it is like that you do.As a coach, I ask my clients what they found useful and worked for them. Then I know to give them more of that. A great question to ask is what’s different now that wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t met me? (or met my company/business).So which is better? To make up what it is you think your clients love about you, or, go with what they tell you? Which is likely to give the truer answer? And people like people like themselves. So you get more clients of the ones you love, and who love what you do. Pretty cool, huh!Whatever you do, have fun too! Anthony©Anthony Davis 2006. All rights reserved PS.
